A Mature Scholar, Devoted Teacher, and Faithful Researcher of Literature


At Urgench State University named after Abu Rayhon Biruni, a scientific-practical conference was held to celebrate the 60th anniversary of one of the prominent figures in Uzbek literature and folklore studies — Doctor of Philology, Professor Jabbor Eshonqulov. As part of the event, a presentation of the scholar’s new works — “The Epic World: A Study of Motif and Image” and “Interpretation of Mythological Thinking” — was also held. These books provide a profound analysis of literary thought and the treasures of oral folk creativity.
The event was opened by the university’s Vice-Rector Z. Ibragimov, who sincerely congratulated the professor on behalf of the university community.

The conference gathered well-known literary scholars, folklorists, academics, and creative figures from Uzbekistan and abroad. Among them were: Director of the Alisher Navoi State Museum of Literature, Doctor of Philology, Professor J. Eshonqulov; Deputy Director of the Institute of Uzbek Language, Literature and Folklore of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Doctor of Philology, Professor M. Asadov; Senior Researcher of the Institute of Folklore of the Azerbaijan Academy of Sciences A. Ibrahimova; Professor of Bukhara State Pedagogical Institute M. Ro‘ziyeva; Candidate of Philological Sciences, Associate Professor R.Khudayberganov, as well as leading scholars of Urgench State University — Professors D. G‘ayipov, S. Sariyev, N. Sabirova, and many others.

Speakers highly praised Professor Jabbor Eshonqulov’s rich academic career and his unique approach to analyzing the roots and imagery of Uzbek folklore. His new books represent an important contribution to national literary scholarship, introducing new directions in the study of epic thought and mythological worldview.

Participants emphasized that Professor J. Eshonqulov is one of the leading figures in Uzbek folklore studies, and that his dedication continues to inspire many young researchers in their scientific pursuits.

This conference was not only a scientific event dedicated to one scholar’s jubilee but also a true celebration of respect for Uzbek oral creativity, national values, and literary thought.
Professor Jabbor Eshonqulov’s multifaceted creativity, research, and mentorship continue to open new horizons in Uzbek literary studies today.

In addition, performances of music, songs, and dances by students added a festive mood and enriched the artistic atmosphere of the event. Each performance reflected deep feelings of national pride, patriotism, and love for literature.
