A Celebration of Literature and Enlightenment: The 90th Anniversary of Erkin Samandar Celebrated at UrSU


Today, a literary and educational event dedicated to the 90th anniversary of the birth of Erkin Samandar—an outstanding representative of modern Uzbek literature, Honored Journalist of Uzbekistan, and recipient of the “Do‘stlik” Order—was held at Urgench State University. As part of the event, presentations were given of the poet’s works and books about him, including Selected Works, My Father, Erkin Samandar: Poet, Writer, Dramatist, Publicist, Statesman and Public Figure, and I Am a Son of Khorezm.

The creative evening was attended by G‘ayrat Majid, Deputy Chairman of the Writers’ Union of Uzbekistan; Sirojiddin Rauf, poet and Editor-in-Chief of the journals Sharq yulduzi and Zvezda Vostoka; Arslan Bayrit, member of the Writers’ Union of Turkey, publisher and journalist; Sayyora Samandarova, poetess and recipient of the “Shuhrat” Medal; as well as a group of members of the Writers’ Union of Uzbekistan, faculty members of the Faculty of Philology and Arts, students, close associates, disciples, and family members of Erkin Samandar.

The event was opened with an introductory speech by the First Vice-Rector of UrSU, D. Ibadullayev, who spoke about the poet’s multifaceted creative activity and his invaluable contribution to the development of Uzbek literature and journalism. The literary evening was moderated by D.Ghayipov, Dean of the Faculty of Philology and Arts.

The guests who took the floor shared warm reflections on Erkin Samandar’s life path, professional activity, services to literature and culture, his work as a statesman, and his high moral qualities, and expressed their views on his literary works.

Within the framework of the presentation event, guest writers were presented with commemorative gifts by the university administration, serving as a vivid expression of deep respect and esteem for people of creative professions. At the same time, the participating authors donated their own works and books to the Urgench State University library. These publications will further enrich the university’s scientific and literary collection and serve as a valuable spiritual resource for students and readers.

At the literary and educational event dedicated to the 90th anniversary of the birth of the great poet and writer Erkin Samandar, students of the Faculty of Philology and Arts presented poetic performances based on his works. In addition, faculty members of the Department of Arts masterfully performed musical pieces harmonizing with the author’s life. The musical performances added a special atmosphere and artistic integrity to the event.

This creative evening once again demonstrated deep respect for the legacy of the great writer and contributed to further strengthening students’ interest in literature and the arts.
