Professional Development for English Language Teachers

Today, June 4, a seminar-training on the topic “Engage, Explore, Empower: Professional Development for 21st Century English Teachers” was organized at the “Farovon” hotel in Khiva city, initiated by the faculty of Urgench State University named after Abu Rayhan Biruni. The event was held for English language teachers from higher education institutions across Khorezm region.

The main goal of the event was to introduce English teachers to interactive, learner-centered teaching methods, and to encourage the application of methodologies and strategies aimed at fostering participation, critical thinking, and collaboration in lessons. More than 40 English teachers participated in the seminar.

During the training, teachers took part in practical exercises focused on moving away from traditional teacher-centered approaches to modern methods that view students as active participants. In particular, methods such as “Four Corners,” “Jigsaw Reading,” and “1,2,3, Uzbekistan” left a strong impression on the participants.

The training sessions were conducted by experienced trainers—Associate Professor Rohatoy Abidova, Head of the English Language and Literature Department, and Associate Professor Feruza Masharipova. Wiley Roberts, Nargiza Hamraeyva, and Dilfuza Kuchkarova assisted in effectively organizing the group work during the seminar-training.
