Department of “Light Industry Technologies and Equipment”
Since 2018, the Department of Chemical Technologies within the Faculty of Chemical Technology at Urgench State University has been training qualified specialists in the field of Technologies and Equipment of Light Industry. In 2021, based on this academic direction, the Department of Technologies and Equipment of Light Industry was officially established.
From 2021 to 2024, the department was headed by Candidate of Technical Sciences, Associate Professor N.K. Saparbayeva. During this period, the department employed 18 academic staff members, including 3 associate professors, 2 senior lecturers, 4 lecturers, and 8 trainee lecturers.
The scientific activity of the department’s academic staff is characterized by a high level of expertise and a strong practical orientation. In particular, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Associate Professor Z.K. Babayev is the author of more than 120 scientific articles and conference papers, 5 methodological manuals, 3 textbooks, and 2 teaching textbooks. Candidate of Technical Sciences, Associate Professor N.K. Saparbayeva has published over 70 scientific articles and conference papers and is the author of 8 methodological manuals, 1 textbook, and 1 teaching textbook.
Since 2024, the department has been headed by Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Technical Sciences, Associate Professor H.P. Jumaniyozov. Currently, the department employs 15 academic staff members, including 1 Doctor of Sciences and 7 holders of the PhD degree. The department’s scientific potential amounts to 53%.
The academic staff of the department have obtained 11 patents for inventions and 25 certificates of state registration for computer software. In addition, they have published 5 textbooks, 8 teaching manuals, 10 monographs, and 25 methodological manuals, as well as 65 scientific articles in high-impact journals indexed in Scopus and Web of Science (WoS). These achievements demonstrate the high level of the department’s scientific and practical activity and its commitment to innovative approaches in education and research.
The department provides training in full-time, evening, and part-time modes of study. At present, about 400 students are enrolled in the following bachelor’s degree programs:

60721400 – Technologies and Equipment of Light Industry (technology of garment production);

60720700 – Light Industry Engineering (garment technology, yarn, silk, and textile technologies).
The department actively cooperates with leading enterprises of the light and textile industry in the Khorezm region. In particular, a 5+1 dual education system has been implemented in cooperation with Urganch Bahmal LLC and Urgench Cluster LLC. Moreover, paid industrial internships with monthly salaries have been organized for students at Artatex LLC, Urgench Cluster LLC, Xiva Cluster LLC, and UZTEXGRUP LLC.
Overall, the department makes a significant contribution not only to the effective organization of the educational process but also to the development of industry through scientific research, the creation of new technologies, and the adaptation of specialist training to modern requirements.
