The Interfaculty Department of Foreign Languages was established in 2000 as part of the Faculty of World Languages at Urgench State University under the name "Interfaculty Foreign Languages." The department was headed by PhD U.S. Sotimov. The department specialized in teaching French, German, English, and Russian to students from various faculties. Initially, the department began with around 20 professors and teachers specializing in German, French, English, and Russian languages.
Over the years, the faculty members of the department published scientific articles, textbooks, methodological materials, monographs, and conducted scientific research. The department's professors became winners of grants founded by the first President and went abroad for professional development. In January 2011, the department's activities were concluded, and the faculty members were transferred to specialized departments.
To further enhance the attention to foreign language learning across the country, on December 12, 2012, the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan issued a decree titled "Measures to Improve the System of Foreign Language Learning" (PQ-1875).
According to this decree, in September 2013, a new department titled "Applied English Language" was established within the Faculty of Foreign Languages at Urgench State University. The department was headed by PhD Associate Professor Jamila Ermetova. The department employed 18 teachers who conducted classes across all non-philological faculties of the university.
In August 2015, the preparation programs for German and French languages for non-philological majors were continued, and the department's name was changed to Interfaculty Foreign Languages.
From March 2018 to May 21, 2024, the department was led by PhD, Associate Professor Feruza Radjapova. Since May 22, 2024, the department has been headed by PhD, Associate Professor Feruza Bahodirova.
